January 2013 Fire Recovery Efforts

It turns out that it was a case of good news/bad news... I now have enough "on the books" for a delivery; but, due to some irresponsible idiot, they'll no longer deliver to a tank that's only used to fill bottles... I don't know if it was one of their customers; or, a customer of some other company that their insurance company insures; but, apparently, someone "blew themselves up" filling a bottle. Their insurance company made them sign an affidavit swearing they'd only service tanks that were connected directly to a structure. Before they'll bring the truck out, I'll have to get that area by the septic tank head cleared, get the 16x16 up, and get a line piped in over from the tank to a heater there... I can only hope that I'm not going to have to pay sme "licensed plumber" to sign off on the line... (The copper tubing is going be expensive enough!) {exasperated snort}

On "the up side," they DID offer to fill any OPD valve bottles I bring to them (WEST OF SHAWNEE - about 25 miles each way!!!) for the "100 gallon price," as long as the money that's on the books now holds out. I'm not thrilled about making a 50 mile round trip with a car full of 5 gallon propane bottles; but, it beats "freezing our asses off..." I'll just take back roads; and, drive VERY defensively... I was going to try to get over there with a batch of bottles today; but, my friend Adam made it over to (try to) get the antenna pole up. We got the antenna head hung up in a couple of branchs; and, he had somewhere else that he needed to be before we got things straightened out; but, hopefully, it'll be up within a couple of days...

Great news in an update from Ms Kathy today! It looks like Kathy is going to be warmer this winter.

"_____ called Steve's propane today; and, added $112 to my account; so, I'll be able to call them tomorrow to arrange a delivery time!!! 8D ENORMOUS THANKS to not only him; but, to you, as well!!!!!"

A recent message to me from Kathy:

"I've been "going nuts" trying to race bad weather; so, I've barely been able to make it down here to even check my e-mail. The insulation guy still isn't returning my calls; so, my "next project" is going to be to go ahead and (temporarily) close that top roof off; so, I'll at least have an air gap and a 2nd layer of OSB over me and my pack.

I've got the out-house closed in w/cardboard and lumber wrap, pending being able to catch more cull OSB that hasn't already been bundled in with a bunch of other stuff. It does have an OSB roof, though. (And even doors and a concrete floor, now! The concrete is to keep anything from leaking in or out, as well as to keep the lower framing from rotting.)

I'm currently doing the completion on the micro's doors, which got "back-burnered" during nice weather, to make way for higher priority projects. I need to trim out out the E one; and, to finish the top section insulation on the W one. I hope to have all that done Sun., in time to finish getting the last couple of places on the water line covered, before the hard freeze we're supposed to get Tues. night/Wed. morning.

I found a small propane heater at a pawn shop; and, I'm hoping to have it operational for that night. I have enough in my tank to fill a couple of 5 gal. bottles (I fill off of my wet-line); so, barring any snags, I'll be able to use it that night."

I got a message on my voice mail today from Kathy.  She called the propane company for someone else and while she was talking to them she inquired regarding the status on her own.  She expect $45.00 but was blown away when she was told it was up to $100.00!  This puts her almost at the 1/2 way mark for minimum delivery.

Her thanks goes out to everyone for their help.

    My name is Genevieve and 26 years ago when I needed help Kathy was there.  She shared her experience, strength, and most of all hope.  I am where I am today as a result of Kathy and people like her.

    Rarely is one blessed to be able to give back to someone that has given to them.  We are usually left to simply pass on what was given so freely to us to another.

    This is my opportunity to give back to Kathy.  Not only for me but for the countless others she has served.  She is a passionate selfless woman who I have admired most of my adult life.
